What is it?

Sodium Chloride (NaCl) — sodium chloride, table salt. In cosmetics, it serves as: a thickener for sulfate systems (shampoos), osmotic regulator in toners, texturizing agent in scrubs and sprays, stabilizer for some emulsions. Naturally present in sweat and seawater. In INCI: Sodium Chloride.

Thickener in shampoos and shower gels. Component of isotonic toners and products with seawater. Abrasive component of salt scrubs.

Key Benefits

Natural thickener without polymers
Increases the viscosity of sulfate and betaine systems without the addition of synthetic polymers or carbomers — an economical and natural way to achieve the desired consistency.
Osmotic regulation
Isotonic toners and essences with physiological NaCl (0.9%) correspond to the osmotic pressure of the skin — do not cause cellular stress and are well tolerated by sensitive skin.
Mineral component of seawater
In products with seawater or marine minerals, sodium chloride is the main electrolyte that maintains mineral balance and tones the skin.

Salt and acne

Excessive amounts of NaCl in products can irritate the skin and exacerbate inflammatory processes. In the right concentrations (0.5–2%) — safe. Products with seawater containing sodium chloride are gentler than freshwater due to the mineral balance.
