Retinyl Palmitate
The mildest retinoid for daily use — retinyl palmitate is an ester of retinol with palmitic acid. Its slow conversion to the active form makes it ideal for sensitive skin and retinoid beginners.
What is it?
Retinyl Palmitate (INCI: Retinyl Palmitate) — an ester of retinol and palmitic acid. Conversion chain: retinyl palmitate → retinol → retinal → retinoic acid (RA). Two steps to retinol, four to active RA — the slowest conversion among retinoids. Naturally found in animal tissues (liver, dairy products). Very stable in formulas, accessible, non-irritating. 20 times weaker than pure retinol in effectiveness at the same concentrations.
Mild anti-aging component for daily use. Ideal for pregnant women (caution — retinoids require medical consultation), sensitive skin, and product formulas where a strong retinoid effect is not needed. Often found in day creams and SPF products.

Main Actions
Retinyl palmitate < Retinyl acetate < Retinol < Retinal < Hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR) < Retinoic acid (Rx). Retinyl palmitate is the mildest. For real anti-aging effect, retinol and above are more effective. But for sensitive skin or as support for current therapy — retinyl palmitate is a justified choice.
