What is it?

Phloretin — a natural polyphenol of the dihydrochalcone class found in the bark of apple and pear trees. INCI: Phloretin. MW 274 Da. Lipophilic, penetrates well through the stratum corneum. Brightening mechanism: inhibits GLUT (glucose transporter) in melanocytes, reducing glucose availability for melanin synthesis. Concentration: 0.2–2%.

Brightening through a unique mechanism

Phloretin blocks the glucose transporter (GLUT1) in melanocytes. Without glucose, melanin synthesis decreases — post-acne spots and hyperpigmentation gradually lighten. The mechanism differs from tyrosinase inhibitors (arbutin, kojic) — thus effective in combination with them.

Protection from UV and free radicals

Phloretin absorbs UV rays and neutralizes free radicals. It protects cellular membrane lipids from peroxidative damage. Reduces the formation of 8-OHdG (a marker of DNA damage from UV). Effective in both daytime and nighttime care.
