What is it?

Lactobacillus Ferment is a product of the fermentation of Lactobacillus spp. (lactic acid bacteria). It contains organic acids (lactic, acetic), bacteriocins, peptides, and polysaccharides — the result of bacterial metabolism. In cosmetics, it acts as a postbiotic: it does not contain live microorganisms but retains their biologically active products. It supports the skin's acidic pH (4.5–5.5), optimal for protective flora.

Used in products for sensitive, problematic, and acne-prone skin. Often combined with prebiotics (inulin, β-glucan) and other postbiotics for comprehensive microbiome support.

Key Benefits

Support for the microbiome and protective barrier
Organic acids and bacteriocins from the ferment create an unfavorable environment for pathogens (C. acnes, Staphylococcus aureus), supporting beneficial flora. Strengthening barrier function reduces TEWL and sensitivity to irritants.
Soothing and reducing inflammation
Peptides and polysaccharides from the ferment lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and soothe irritated skin. Effective for redness, atopic dermatitis, and reactive skin.
Antibacterial effect in acne
Lactic acid and bacteriocins inhibit the growth of C. acnes without aggressive effects on beneficial microflora. Unlike antibiotics, it does not cause resistance and maintains skin balance.

Postbiotic ≠ probiotic

Live bacteria are not used in cosmetics — they are unstable. Postbiotics (ferments) are stable products of bacterial metabolism. They act more effectively and safely for the skin than live cultures.
