What is it?

Kaolin — a natural aluminosilicate Al2Si2O5(OH)4, white in color, very fine grind. The softest of cosmetic clays: kaolin (soft) < pink clay < green clay < bentonite < blue clay (most active). In INCI: Kaolin or Kaolin Clay.

Used in clay masks for oily and combination skin, powders and foundations (absorbent), delicate scrubs and cleansers for sensitive skin.

Comparison of clays

For sensitive skin — only kaolin. For normal and oily — pink or green clay. For very oily skin and deep cleansing — bentonite or blue clay (French montmorillonite). Never leave a clay mask to dry completely.
