Histidine
The essential amino acid with a unique function — histidine is a precursor of urocanic acid (UCA), a natural UV filter and NMF component of the skin. It also acts as an antioxidant and metal protector in formulations.
What is it?
Histidine (гістидин, His) — an essential aromatic amino acid. In INCI: Histidine. Naturally found in the skin's NMF. The enzyme histidase converts it into urocanic acid (UCA) — one of the key components of NMF that absorbs UV-B and participates in regulating the pH of the stratum corneum. Histidine is also an effective chelating agent — it binds metal ions.
NMF-active and antioxidant component in serums and creams. Often included in complex amino acid formulations. Particularly valuable in products for sensitive skin and formulas with metal chelating needs.
