What is it?

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (GHPTC) — cationically modified guar gum (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba). In INCI: Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride. Positively charged polysaccharide that adsorbs onto the negatively charged hair shaft. A plant-based alternative to synthetic polyquaterniums — used in natural and organic cosmetics.

Conditioning and detangling agent in shampoos, conditioners, and hair detangling products. Especially popular in formulas for curly hair (Curly Girl Method compatible), children's products, and natural cosmetics.

Key Benefits

Gentle conditioning and detangling
GHPTC adsorbs onto damaged hair cuticles and reduces friction between hair strands — detangling and smoothness effect without synthetic quaternary ammonium compounds. A favorite in Curly Girl Method formulas.
Plant origin — clean beauty standard
Obtained from guar beans — a natural raw material with minimal chemical modification. Meets COSMOS Organic and ECOCERT standards. Ideal for organic and natural certified products.
Anti-static effect and frizz reduction
The cationic charge neutralizes static electricity on hair — reduces flyaways and frizz. The effect is lighter and less persistent than that of synthetic quats, but sufficient for daily use.
