Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
The most common chemical UVB filter in the world — octinoxate (OMC) is present in most mass-market sunscreens. It provides effective protection against UVB radiation with a light texture and no white cast.
What is it?
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (OMC, Octinoxate) — an organic UVB filter. It absorbs UVB (280-320 nm), converting energy into heat. No UVA protection (needs to be complemented with avobenzone or another UVA filter). Lipophilic — well soluble in oils. In INCI: Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate or Octyl Methoxycinnamate.
The basic UVB filter in most chemical SPF products in mass-market and pharmacy cosmetics. Always combined with a UVA filter (avobenzone, mexoryl, etc.).
