Drometrizole Trisiloxane
Mexoryl XL — a unique broad-spectrum UV filter from L'Oréal based on silicone. It covers UVB and long-wave UVA (up to 400 nm). Thanks to the silicone tail, it forms an even protective film on the skin and is resistant to sweat and water.
What is it?
Mexoryl XL — a patented L'Oréal UV filter. Structure: benzotriazole (UVB-UVA chromophore) + trisiloxane tail (silicone part). Absorption peaks: ~303 nm (UVB) and ~360 nm (UVA). Oil-soluble. The silicone tail provides: excellent application, an even film layer, water resistance, and a silky skin feel. Maximum concentration in the EU: 15%. Not approved by the FDA (hence often absent in American L'Oréal products). Partnered with Mexoryl SX (terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid) — together they form the "Mexoryl system" of La Roche-Posay and Lancôme.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios, Lancôme UV Expert, and other top products from the L'Oréal Group. The standard of broad-spectrum protection in French dermatological cosmetics.
