What is it?

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate — potassium salt of glycyrrhizic acid (triterpene saponin from the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra). In INCI: Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate. The water-soluble form is better for aqueous formulations than licorice root extract. It inhibits the activity of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase — a mechanism similar to the cortisone-like effect, but without hormonal side effects.

Anti-inflammatory and soothing active in toners, serums, and creams for sensitive, reactive, and rosacea-prone skin. Often used in post-procedure products and products for atopic skin.

Key Benefits

Powerful anti-inflammatory action without steroids
Inhibits the conversion of cortisol to cortisone through the inhibition of 11β-HSD — enhances local anti-inflammatory effect without systemic consequences. Comparable effectiveness to hydrocortisone 0.5% for redness and itching.
Quick reduction of redness and anti-redness
One of the fastest natural anti-redness agents — visible effect within 15–30 minutes after application. Effective for redness from irritation, rosacea triggers, and reactions to active ingredients.
Recovery after procedures
Standard component of post-peel and post-laser products — reduces reactivity, accelerates barrier recovery, and decreases post-inflammatory redness after peels and microneedling.
