What is it?

Tinosorb S — oil-soluble filter with two absorption peaks: ~310 nm (UVB) and ~344 nm (UVA). Maximum allowed concentration in the EU: 10%. Exceptional photostability — does not decompose and stabilizes other filters through triplet quenching. Not approved by the FDA. A standard component of top sunscreens from Avène, La Roche-Posay, ISDIN, Altruist, and most Korean brands.

A unique property of Tinosorb S — quenching of excited electronic states (triplet quenching) of other filters. Absorbs the triplet energy from avobenzone, DHHB, and octinoxate → neutralizes their photodegradation. Allows the inclusion of unstable filters in the formula and provides them with a long-lasting effect. Formulas with Tinosorb S are significantly more photostable overall.

Light texture and aesthetics

Tinosorb S — a light oil-soluble molecule with good cosmetic characteristics. Does not leave a white cast, does not clog pores, easily spreads in the formula.
