What is it?

Acrylates Copolymer is a synthetic polymer obtained by polymerizing acrylic monomers. In INCI: Acrylates Copolymer or Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (thickener-crosspolymer). It forms stable emulsions and gels over a wide pH range. The crosspolymer version (Carbomer alternative) is particularly effective at pH 5–7.

Thickener and stabilizer of emulsions in sunscreens (especially chemical UV-filter formulas), BB/CC creams, foundations, and fluid moisturizers. Provides smooth application and stay power in formulas with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Key Benefits

Stable texture in SPF formulas
Acrylates copolymer effectively suspends UV filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) and prevents their settling. Ensures even application and stable SPF effect throughout the day.
Smooth matte finish
The polymer film on the skin's surface minimizes the visibility of pores and imperfections — characteristic smooth, airbrushed effect in fluid foundation and tinted moisturizer. Moderate oil control without over-drying.
Wide formulation compatibility
Stable in the presence of electrolytes, alcohols, and most actives — unlike carbomer, it does not lose viscosity when salts or acids are added. Allows for formulation over a wider pH range.
